Due to increasing use of the internet by an increasing variety of McGehees, some of the categories formerly included here have been dropped. I am currently considering the question of whether the purpose originally served by this page has been superseded by more powerful and more finely-tuned search capabilities. If you have an opinion about the usefulness of this page, feel free to comment in the guestbook.

Mississippi Magee -- Varnado Heritage
http://www.angelfire.com/wi/Carver/magee-varnado.html
Since many McGehee descendants owned slaves before the Civil War, there are of course some McGehees who also have African ancestry. Willie L. Robinson is one such, and this website covers his branch of the family. It also includes a link to his pages at FamilyTreeMaker.com

South Mississippi Megehees

Another Family Tree Maker web site, this time by Dan Megehee. Like me, Dan is descended from Thomas MackGehee's brother, William "the Quaker."
Baker-Brady Family Histories
http://www.baker-brady.com/
Names being researched include McGehee and Starks -- the latter being connected to author Stark Young. Terry e-mails of having photographs of Young's tutor, his aunt Sally Starks, as well as photos believed to be of Young's father and mother, and his aunt Julia and uncle Hugh McGehee (from whom Young learned the McGehee family lore that made it into So Red the Rose). The picture gallery is linked from the genealogy page.

Wise, eloquent patriarch of the McGehees of Natchez, Mississippi in the Civil War novel So Red the Rose (1934) by Stark Young.
George McGehee
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0027018
Apparently the only McGehee to survive the adaptation of So Red the Rose into a motion picture (1935, Paramount), George was played by Charles Starrett (1903-1986), who later went on to fame as The Durango Kid in dozens of "B" Westerns, from 1940 until 1952. So Red the Rose has yet to be released on home video.
