Just had a look at Technorati, and most of the “blog reactions” to The McGehee Zone in the last few days are from spam autoblogs—blogs posted to automatically by software that just finds keywords (or Technorati tags) by way of the various feed services. At least a couple of them, I’d already blacklisted for just that sort of thing—but I’m just not going to bother anymore.
On the bright side, they’ve cranked my “authority” rank way up from where it was a week or two ago.
On the downside, Technorati is bound to correct this situation sooner or later. Any potential gain at Google or other search engines would be similarly temporary.
I can remember a time when I had enough legitimate “authority” to rank, however briefly, as a “Playful Primate” at TTLB’s blogosphere ecosystem (is that thing still going)?
Update, via Charles: The “spam autoblog” phenomenon has a somewhat more evocative name.
